Part XVIII – The Prophetic Sequence

A Study of the Antichrist-Beast, False Prophet-Second Beast, and the Image of the Beast

(A Theological Discourse)

Doug Krieger

This segment (Part XVIII) of the Prophetic Sequence is actually a continuation of Part XVII of that sequence; and finally Part XIX  – broken down into three relatively equal segments.  We are taking a journey through Christianity to ascertain Biblical fact or fiction – error or wisdom – benign neglect or dangerous counterfeit.

Our journey is likened to Pilgrim’s Progress – the journey to the Celestial City – names, places, faces, and a host of distractions await us – some familiar, some not so accustomed to our gaze.  Be patient, we, by God’s grace, shall make the trek and discover that many we have met along the way have seen these glasses half full and half empty – but as the day approaches, we affirm that the Holy Spirit, as was shared with Daniel:  “None of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand” (Daniel 12:10).  Let us continue our journey . . .

Pastor Tony Warren and a cadre of followers within the charismatic Reform Theology movement (Center for Biblical Theology and Eschatology) ascribe little if any prophetic credibility to today’s Israel “of the flesh” – instead, the Church dominates all the major prophetic portions of Scripture.

Furthermore, an elaborate effort (though flawed) is given (and, yes, I am exceedingly opinionated with these belief systems as faulty and dangerous) is made to curtail at least one-half of Daniel’s 70th Week (i.e., the terminus of the Daniel’s 69th Week when the “cutting off of Messiah” takes place is pushed back three-and-one-half years to the Baptism of Jesus by John where, according to Warren, the “most holy place” was anointed—Jesus Himself being the most holy place); therefore, there is no coming Antichrist personality, and the Seventieth Week is NOT separated from the first 69 Week/Years.  The breaking of the covenant with Israel was/is not accomplished by the Antichrist who most Premillenarians affirm orchestrates this deception with Israel at the commencement of Daniel’s Seventieth Week; instead, the breaking of the covenant is attributed to Jesus Christ with Israel (hence—“Replacement Theology”).

“This is what’s in View. Israel (the New Covenant church) is assaulted by Satan and his messengers when he is loosed of God, and these place the abomination in the Temple. The Apostasy! And they (the saints, the Church) are given in his hand until time, times, and a half. And then the judgment sits, and end of the world. This mirrors what we read in Daniel 12 of the power of the Holy People (Believers) being scattered time, times and a half, when God swore that all would be finished. All totally consistent with everything else in Scripture. This is as we read in Revelation 11 of the two Candlesticks / Witnesses / Prophets / Olive Trees being killed. It’s the same Symbolic picture of the Church. They are overrun and given into his hand when he is loosed for time, times and a half. Any way you look at it, God is painting the picture that when the testimony is finished (Revelation 11:7), the Church is killed. That’s the language of sacrifice and offering (or the gift) ceasing. The Churches testimony is finished because all Israel who is to be saved, has been saved. Because of the overspreading of abomination that stands in the Temple of God, they shall make the temple desolate. Even until the consummation. Till the end come, and judgment be poured out upon those who make it desolate. It will remain desolate until the end. Let’s take another larger look at a sketch to put the bigger picture in perspective.

“That is the Biblical interpretation of the 70 weeks of Daniel Chapter Nine. The overview is that the 70 weeks go from the command to build again the City, to the Jubilee year, to the coming of Messiah the Prince of Israel, and after this 62 weeks, is Messiah cut off, and confirms or strengthens the New Covenant by His work on the cross, for one week. During this week, abomination stands in the holy place, and sacrifice and the gift ceases. i.e., there is no more Salvation left in these churches and the power of the Holy People is scattered. There is a famine of hearing the Word of God so that there is no free gift or sacrifice in the Temple. And this abomination shall leave the Temple desolate. And if these days of tribulation and trouble weren't shortened, there would be no flesh on earth left to be Saved (as sacrifice and offering has ceased). But for the Chosen of God’s sake, the days are shortened, that there will be a rapture! And that is at the end or the consummation.” (What is the Abomination of Desolation – by Tony Warren)

A complete defense of the futurity of Daniel’s entire Seventieth Week is given in UNSEALING THE END OF DAYS, Appendix 3, by this author.

Akin to the Reformed eschatology of Tony Warren is the somewhat radical Historicist approach of one, Harold Camping.  With his Family Radio network and staid fundamentalist-sounding preachments, one would not expect some of the wild conclusions coming from what initially appears as mainstream evangelicalism—but you’d be surprised!

Laying aside all the accusations of Camping being a cult and “into major heresy” (i.e., “the Church Age has ended” – the presence of the Holy Spirit has been removed from all denominational churches – and all organized Christianity is Babylon:  “you can’t be saved if you stay in it”) – he certainly does not deny the divinity of Christ – but his ideas are “out there” big time.  One of his most vociferous critics is a somewhat straightforward web site simply known as Family Radio is Wrong (an amalgamation of writings and warnings relative to Camping’s Amillenarian excesses).

The bane of Amillenarian Historicism, date setting, pops up all over Camping’s efforts—especially in his text, 1994 – Are You Ready?, when he predicted the Second Coming of Christ.  That’s apparently changed to 2011 (Time Has An End: A Biblical History of the World - 11,013 BC to 2011 AD, by Harold Camping, Atlas Press).

In any event, while Camping’s hyper allegorical charge that we’re living in the Tribulation; therefore, through the Charismatic Movement Satan’s taking over every organized denomination (Imagine what he thinks of the Catholics?) his considerations on the Abomination of Desolation are summarized hereunder:

“Harold Camping claims that he sees the Abomination of Desolation in every church. Therefore, his followers claim to see the same thing. The difference between the church of 1993 and 1994 is nothing new under the sun. Some churches will form, fail, and then fall. Then the true remnant in those fallen churches will re-form.” (Ken @

A final sampling of Camping’s “anything goes” allegorical approach to eschatology may send you in apocalyptic seizure:

“When the era of the church age has come to an end. The time has come for others to complete the task of world evangelization. And simultaneously with the end of the church age God has brought His judgment upon the churches. For more than 1900 years God has tolerated the wrong doctrines even as He tolerated the high places of Old Testament Israel. But now God has loosed Satan and through his deceptions churches all over the world have become apostate, following the desires of men rather than those of God. Satan has been allowed to marshal his forces to surround Jerusalem and destroy it. We have learned that the terms Jerusalem and Judea refer to the corporate external church.” (Family Radio is Wrong)

When he’s not exposing the Jehovah Witnesses and the Seventh-Day Adventists, David A. Reed speaks of Bible prophecy.  His “Beast from the sea” is the world political system; the “image of the beast” is the United Nations; and, the beast out of the earth (i.e., the Second Beast) is the British /American superpower (Note:  Two Horns . . . British/American).

The “forty and two months” of Revelation 13:5 constitutes, according to Reed, the 3 ½ years of Hitler’s extermination camps.  (The Center for Apologetics Research, Revelation 13).  Reed has completely disassociated the papacy – a mainstay of Historicists – from his prophetic equations.

Blank, formerly a Catholic, plainly states:

“Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the Worldwide Church of God, who also claimed to be a descendant of King David, widely taught Anglo-Israelism with his The United States and Britain In Prophecy. With the power of modern communications at his disposal, Armstrong became so well known for the theory that some actually began referring to Anglo-Israelism as Armstrongism. Since his death in 1986, what remains of the WCG have abandoned their official belief in Anglo-Israelism, as well as many other of Armstrong's teachings, although his son, Garner Ted Armstrong, who left the WCG in 1978, has steadfastly continued to believe and teach it, as have thousands of other former members in various split-off church groups . . . what difference does it make?

“As far as Prophecy is concerned, it literally makes all of the difference in the world. Many who read The Bible believe that end-time prophecies about ‘Israel’ mean only the small country of Israel with Jerusalem as its capital - although Jerusalem is indeed going to be ‘ground zero’ for the greatest events of the time just prior to The Return Of Jesus Christ, as well as for The Return itself. Anglo-Israelism (a term that this writer would not have chosen) means that, along with God’s blessings, the tribulations that were prophesied upon ‘Israel’ are going to affect vastly more people than many now realize.

“However, if you're wondering what this writer believes about the theory (i.e., Anglo-Israelism), if you haven't already guessed, if I were a gambling        man   (which I’m not), and had a hundred dollars to risk, I’d bet ninety-nine          of them       that the theory is true.” (Anglo-Israelism, by Wayne Blank)

With this as a backdrop – Blank’s commentary on “The Abomination of Desolation” is most interesting – after mentioning the proto-types of the abomination of desolation committed under Antiochus IV in 167 B.C., and by Titus Vespasianus during the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., he continues:

“The only factors that they all have in common is that they occurred / will occur in Jerusalem, in Judea, and all happened / will happen as a matter of military force with a religious motive i.e. an end-time ‘Christian’ warlord, who will quite likely regard himself as a modern-day ‘crusader’ . . . in its full context, Christ’s reference to the abomination of desolation wasn’t talking about the incident with Antiochus IV, which occurred over 150 years before Christ made that prophecy, or the Roman military idols, which happened only about 40 years after Christ made that prophecy.  Christ was talking about the abomination of desolation that will occur in Jerusalem just before the return of Christ.  Christ’s prophecy doesn’t specify what the abomination will be, but it will be just as despicable to God’s Holy Place as the sacrifice of a pig, or the worship of an eagle idol, both of which have already happened.” (Abomination of Desolation – Where?, by Wayne Blank, The Church of God Daily Bible Study)

A small ministry entitled THUNDER MINISTRIES, puts it right out there – there’s no escaping the Image of the Beast, because YOU ARE IT!  This outspokenly anti-Trinitarian ministry, in spite of its avowed heresy, also has some amazing insights – so, let Thunder Ministries roll!

“I believe the image in the verse to follow (Revelation 13:13) is the false church, or you if you are part of it . . . there are more false Pharisees and Sadducees than ever before today . . . we are either the image of our heavenly Father or the image of Satan according to whom we worship.  Just like we are the body of Christ, (Ephesians 5:30), for we are members of HIS BODY OF HIS FLESH, and of HIS BONES.  The devil has HIS BODY, HIS IMAGE, HIS CHURCH, HIS CITY (BABYLON), HIS RIVER (Euphrates) (Note:  Pastor Daniel’s caps.)

“If you do not know Jesus, then you belong to Satan, THE SPIRIT OF THE FIRST ADAM, and are of his flesh, and of his bones.  Therefore you give your soul unto the first beast, the DRAGON, the SERPENT.  You become a LIVING IMAGE of UNCLEANNESS, and UNCLEAN TEMPLE, SATAN’S TEMPLE, a BEAST and HIS IMAGE.  You are the arch enemy of God.  You become the IMAGE THAT SPEAKS FOR THE BEAST.”  (The Beast, His Mark, His Image, Thunder Ministries, Henderson, West Virginia)

A sort of evangelical Catholic approach to these issues is found @

“The concept of the abomination of desolation is often spiritualized with explaining it as idolatrous worship established in the hearts of God’s people (His ‘temple’).  But the simplest and more real explanation of all these passages is to see the abomination as the suppression of the eternal sacrifice, nowadays only present in Christianity in the Holy Mass.

“For many Protestants this ‘Abomination’ means very little, because they already do not have the ‘perpetual sacrifice,’ nor’ sanctuary,’ nor ‘altar,’ nor’ priests.’  The Orthodox already do not have the ‘prince of hosts,’ nor ‘the city.’  Many Catholics may wonder how come the Holy Mass and priests could be abolished…but this already happened partially at the coming of Muhammad when there were 800 Christian bishops in Africa, among them St. Augustine, and in a few years they were reduced to just 5!...the ‘remnant’ always mentioned by Isaiah.  And when Martin Luther came, in a few years millions of Christians were left without sacrifice, altar, and priests… so, this is what will happen at the coming of the Antichrist during the Abomination of Desolation, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be abolished, and, consequently, there will be no need for altars nor priests to celebrate it… and, of course, a ‘remnant’ will be left!” (Ibid, Biblia)

Clearly, there is a seven-year tribulation period, yet future – however, everything fixates upon the Holy Eucharist:

“St. Paul tells us twice what or who withholds the antichrist to appear, in 2 Thess. 2:6, 7…and that ‘restrainer,’ ‘the one who holds back the Antichrist,’ is Jesus in the Eucharist!...when the sacrifice of the Holy Eucharist is abolished, the Antichrist will appear with full force!...right now, says Paul, the Antichrist, the mystery of iniquity is already at work, but restrained by the Eucharist, and his work will start in full when the Abomination of Desolation comes, when the Holy Sacrifice and the Altar and Priests will be taken away.” (Ibid., Biblia)

Eschatological chronologies are fascinating:

“The total time of the reign of the Antichrist will be 2,300 evenings and mornings (Daniel 8:14).  (1)  The Great Tribulation will last 1,290 days, and blessed (are) the ones who wait and reach 1,335 days, adds in the next verse (Dan. 12:12-13).  (2) The Abomination of Desolation, consequently, will last 1,010 days according to Daniel.” (Ibid)

And, take notice that evangelical Catholics know what the Adventists are up to:

“For the Adventists, the 42 months or 1,260 days are 1,260 years…and right now, for them, all who celebrate Sunday as the Day of the Lord are the Antichrist, all 2 billion Christians, except them!...but really, nobody adores Luther nor the Pope, not even the Protestants nor the Catholics…and no Protestant nor Pope has ever had the economic authority of the Antichrist of Rev. 13:17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he is branded with the name of the Beast…and no one has ever had the political authority of the Antichrist of Rev. 13… and honestly, never a Catholic or a Protestant denied the Christ! . . . There is no way to translate these 1260 days into 1260 years, as some scholars do invoking Ezekiel 4:6.” (Ibid)

Traditional Catholics of a more intellectual bent (Catholic Encyclopedia) address the Abomination of Desolation and pinpoint the original Hebrew suggests goes beyond a mere idolatrous worship to the personification of evil itself—i.e., the DESOLATOR . . .

“To determine its meaning (i.e., ‘The Abomination of Desolation’), interpreters have naturally betaken themselves to the original Hebrew of the book of Daniel; for our first Evangelist distinctly says that ‘the abomination of desolation’ he has in view ‘was spoken of by Daniel the prophet’; and further, the expression he makes use of, in common with St. Mark, is simply the Greek phrase whereby the Septuagint translators rendered literally the Hebrew words shiqqûç shômem found in Daniel 12:11; 9:27; 11:31.  Unfortunately, despite all their efforts to explain these Hebrew terms, biblical scholars are still at variance about their precise meaning.

“While most commentators regard the first shiqqûç, usually rendered by ‘abomination,’ as designating anything (statue, altar, etc.) that pertains to idolatrous worship, others take it to be a contemptuous designation of a heathen god or idol.  Again, while most commentators render the second  shômem by the abstract word ‘desolation,’ others treat it as a concrete form referring to a person, ‘a ravager,’ or even as a participial known meaning ‘that maketh desolate.’ . . . The phrase shiqqûç shômem stands for the original expression bá ̀ ál shámáyîm (Baal of heaven), a title found in Phoenician and Aramaic inscriptions, and the Semitic equivalent of the Greek Zeus, Jupiter, but modified in Daniel through Jewish aversion for the name of a Pagan deity.” (The Abomination of Desolation, Catholic Encyclopedia on CD-ROM)

The inevitability of Islam becoming the Image of the Beast did not need my research – sooner or later it would pop up!  Again, we have done a comprehensive study on this:  ISLAM IS NOT THE ANTICHRIST.  But, once again, there are excellent insights from those like Tommy Spurgeon who is convinced Islam is the Image of the Beast.  On his web site: America and Israel in Bible Prophecy, The Image of the Beast, he states:

“Satan, the False Prophet and the anti-Christ will work hand in hand to destroy God’s people.  These will include both Christians and Jews including everyone that oppose(s) their plans for world conquest . . . in Revelation 13:14 it says that he (the False Prophet) deceives those who live on he earth by using miracles . . . Jesus warned people that to accuse the healing power of the Holy Spirit as being a devil was the unpardonable sin . . . so the miracles that the False Prophet will use will be the kind of miracles that the Muslim or Islamic people consider being a miracle.  Many of them believe that the destroying of the twin towers in New York was a miracle from Allah to prove his greatness.  These are the kinds of miracles the False Prophet will produce to convince others of his message that will support the anti-Christ.”

Spurgeon goes into some detail regarding how, like King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and the Image he saw, even so, evil people like Hitler can have dreams of power and glory and transcribe them in text, e.g., Mein Kampf or “My Struggle.”  Later Spurgeon shares that the Arabic word “Jihad” means “To Struggle” . . . and “the dream of world conquest is the same dream that both the Nazi’s and Islamic Extremist share.” (Ibid)  Furthermore, Spurgeon explores the entire concept of a “dream image.”

“In Revelation 13:15 it says that all that do not worship the image of the beast will be killed.  Notice it says those who would not worship the image.  This means those who do not agree with his dream or vision, the image of world conquest and his people as the rulers of it.  Hitler did the same thing, if you were not a Nazi or disagreed with this vision of the future under the Third Reich then you were sent off to a concentration camp to eventually die of starvation or something else.  This is the same thing that the anti-Christ is going to do.  His method of execution will be to cut off the heads of those who do not agree.  Does this sound like any group of people today?  Is there anyone today that practices cutting off the heads of their enemies?  If you said Muslim you are right.” (Ibid)

Islam not only becomes the vision, the dream, the Image of the Beast, but the Mark of the Beast as well:

“The mark of the beast will be something that identifies the people of the anti-Christ much like the swastika that the Nazis wore on their uniforms.  It may actually be 666, then again it may be something else but it will figure into the prophecy one way or another.  When I was asked by a friend to go to a Muslim website that had a teaching about the number ‘666’ I was astonished at what I read:  ‘The number 666 is highly publicized all over the world and it is associated with evil and danger.  However, it is not what it seems. It was a Satanic trick.  The trick was to prevent the people approaching the 666.  Satan knew that the 666 is the book of GOD and the people should be kept away from it.  According to his plan, he placed a bad image to the number 666.’  (This man) was teaching that the number 666 is a Holy number representing the Qur’an and was evidence that Allah was the only true God.” (Ibid)

On a more objective note, Spurgeon believes that President Ahmadinejad of Iran thinks that he believes that he will “bring world peace and order” and to do so, “they must get rid of the state of Israel and destroy America as well.” (Ibid)

A Nigerian web site affirms that Revelation 13 reveals that the false prophet who shall “enforce a false democratic system of government of the leopard beast from Greece” will give life unto the image of the beast so that he can speak which will be the fulfillment of the prophecies.

With editing:

“Image worship was introduced during the ancient kingdom of Babylon ruling the whole world and people were forced to worship; although, this image could not speak.  Since the book of Revelation is a reflection of the book of Daniel, it implies that the image of the beast can speak now during the democratic era of the leopard beast of Greece in the end-times . . . Images are in the form of an existing object, the likeness or resemblance of the original object.  God created man in his own image . . . Revelation 13 reveals that the false prophet, which is the false democratic system of Government, will involve giving life to images to speak as leaders.  Revelation 13 is a compound prophecy involving several mysteries which require explanations based on current world developments, unlike in the days of the Apostle John.  Revelation 13 implies that within the democratic system of Greece in the end-times this Image will speak.”

This Nigerian went on to say:

“The source of modern knowledge commenced in Greece – it then spread itself throughout Europe, and          then to the world.  Such was the wisdom of the leopard beast.  In essence, the Greeks educated the world, which was predicted by the prophet Daniel and reflected in the book of Revelation.  Now, as       knowledge increased, we humans began to make modern images – first photographs, then film, then      colored images, and much more today.” (Opuzzdaka, Nigeria)

And, finally, we come to one, Barbara Aho, perhaps one of the most elaborate evangelical conspiratorialists on the planet!  Don’t kid yourself – she comes with unwavering credentials and accolades from the likes of Javier Solana aficionado and New-Age detective, Constance Cumbey, Esq., to wit:  “For the record, I DEEPLY respect most of Barb Aho’s work.” (My Perspective, What Constance Thinks) (Cumbey’s caps for emphasis.)

As we delve into this final trek of our journey—and we could have, most certainly, covered far more ground (mercifully, we didn’t)—we are mindful that virtually ALL of these brethren genuinely love the Lord, and all of them, in measure, see the Celestial City (some assuredly more than others) – and to avoid the charge that I am “wise in my own conceits” – admittedly “see through a glass darkly” and “prophesy in part.” (I Corinthians 13:9, 12), and worse yet, “whether there are prophecies, they will fail . . . but the greatest of these is love” (I Corinthians 13:8, 13).

That overshadowing caveat said; let us examine this most unusual commentary on the prophetic Scriptures . . . for we may have saved the most fascinating for last!

“Following the destruction of the Roman Church at mid-Tribulation, demons will be teaching their doctrines in monastic communities and other ascetic settings.  A counterfeit 144,000 will be presented to the world as monks of the Nazarene or Essene communities; these will be reported to have attained perfection and been deified.  The counterfeit 144,000 will pose as members of the Order of Melchizedek who are androgynous and immortal.  The Age of the spirit will be ushered in by the counterfeit 144,000 monastics.  The true 144,000 are the twelve tribes of Israel minus the Tribe of Dan and adds Joseph. (Rev. 7) The false 144,000 will be the Tribe of Dan.” (Heeding Bible Prophecy, Understanding Satan’s Plan – To Counterfeit the Second Coming of Christ & the Restoration of All Things – ISRAEL No. 24, New Jerusalem – and throughout).

Surely, you’re having little, if any, problem following this . . . right?

“The Vatican is courting Israel which will lead to the Pope confirming Daniel’s 70-week covenant at the beginning of the Tribulation” (Ummmm – shades of Papal Historicism here . . .).

To validate her theory of the Papacy is the Antichrist (at this juncture) – she quotes the following:

“On Dec. 30, 1993, the Fundamental Agreement between the Holy See and Israel was signed.  It paved the way for diplomatic relations… There is a chance to open up a new era in Christian-Jewish relations; the next pope will not go back on that.” (212:125-6)

Eventually, and we might as well cut to the chase here; Aho is absolutely mesmerized by Da Vinci Code conspiracies and enthralled with Free Masonry and their Tribulation Temple building boom!

“Finally, the Illuminati is so interested in promoting the welfare of Israel at the expense of the Arabs because they fully plan to rebuild Solomon’s Temple on the Temple Mount!  To secure the safety and welfare of this new Masonic Temple – Antichrist’s Temple – the Illuminati is more than willing to annihilate all Muslims.”

So, just what is the “Program of Satan” envisioned by Aho?

“The Roman prince (Pope) will commission a Millennial Temple or tabernacle of David to be built at the beginning of the 7-year Tribulation period.  At mid-point of the 7 years, he shall cause the sacrifice to cease, due to the placement of the abomination of desolation (more of that later) in the Holy Place.  However, the Freemasons desire to build the Temple of Pallas/Pan at a sacred site in the territory of Dan (Northern Israel) . . . They may attempt to build Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem; however, the earthquake foretold in Rev. 11:13 will justify their abandonment of Jerusalem in order to build a temple at Dan.  Although the Freemasons will claim that the temple is a ‘Christian’ temple, and not a Jewish temple, they will dedicate the temple to Pallas, the Greek god/goddess sea-beast (Rev. 13:1) from which the name ‘Palestine’ derives.”

This is beginning to make a lot of sense – I can see why Constance Cumbey DEEPLY respects most of Barb Aho’s work!  Speaking of Revelation 11:1 and the measuring of the temple . . .

“The Temple May Be About To Be Rebuilt!  Christians the world over who know their prophecy, understand that Antichrist is going to rebuild his Temple – Matthew 24:15.  An Israeli fundamentalist organization called ‘The Temple Mount Faithful’ is leading the fight to get the Temple rebuilt.  They believe they are building a Temple for their Jewish messiah, but we Christians know that Temple will be for Antichrist (Note:  Don’t include me in “we Christians”)

The Ahoian plot thickens:

“The Holy of Holies, or Inner Sanctuary, in Solomon’s Temple was deemed to represent the womb of         Ashtaroth (alternately Asherah as mentioned several times in the Old Testament). . . .The divine       marital chamber was the sanctuary of the Jerusalem Temple…” (29:17-18 – Note:  These references are      within Aho’s purview, I list them only as citings from her own sources.)

You and I had no idea that this is what was going on in Solomon’s Temple – you know, the one whereof it is said:

“Then the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the temple, to the Most Holy Place, under the wings of the cherubim . . . and it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the Lord . . . Then Solomon spoke: ‘The Lord said He would dwell in the dark cloud.  I have surely built You an exalted house, and a place for You to dwell in forever’” (I Kings 8:10-13).

Aho’s next entitlement inculcates the Merovingian dynasty, once again:

“The rebuilt Temple of Solomon will become the Merovingian Temple of Pallas/Pan, the Sea-Beast . . . The earliest writings about this society…known as the Brotherhood or Order of the Rosy Cross, began to circulate in Europe around…1605.  They were contained in a manuscript called ‘THE RESTORATION OF THE DECAYED TEMPLE OF PALLAS.’” (25:44)

“It was the Arcadian legacy that was responsible for the mysterious sea beast – the Bistea Neptunis – as      symbolically defined in the Merovingian ancestry.  The relevant sea-lord was King Pallas, A GOD OF     OLD arcadia.” (29:175).

“The Temple (rebuilt temple of Solomon) will also be used for occult initiation.” (Just so you know   precisely what will be going on in this new temple.)

Now, if you can figure this out—let me know posthaste—as Aho surmises:

“The Roman prince (i.e., the Pope) will remove the Temple sacrifice, claiming the end of Daniel’s 70th week; the Antichrist (who I thought was the Pope) will destroy the Roman prince (the Catholics get their comeuppance), claim to be the messiah and violate God’s covenant with Israel.” (Note:  How the Roman Prince-Antichrist will be destroyed by the Roman prince-Antichrist is anyone’s guess!)

On the other hand, and in all deference to Ms. Aho, she may consider the Roman Prince as the Papacy; therefore, the Antichrist now destroys the papal authority!  That’s got to be it!

We now move on to the abomination of desolation itself . . .

“The ‘abomination of desolation’ will be an obelisk (phallic symbol) that is set upon the altar in the Holy Place, thereby causing the sacrifice to come to an end.  Throughout Church history, the obelisk has been erected as a symbol of the triumph of Paganism over Christianity.  There are other abominations that will be set up in the temple/tabernacle and also cause it to be desolated.  These abominations will be presented to Israel as being part of the ‘restored Temple treasures,’ but in reality they are occult artifacts—possibly even some that were connected with the pagan Pan/Baal worship in Solomon’s Temple (Ezekiel 8) and at Dan/Mt. Hermon.  Among these artifacts will be a pagan cornerstone, an omphalos that will be Satan’s throne, the Stone of Destiny, which they will claim is Jacob’s Pillar, obelisks, and other objects.  It’s difficult to say which of these will be placed upon the altar and become the ‘abomination of desolation’ as all are abominations connected to the restored Pan/Baal phallic worship in Jerusalem.  See:  Phallic Worship 21.G; The Beast (Pan) 11.A.”

Indeed, the Antichrist of Aho will “replace the last 3.5 years of Daniel’s 70-week covenant with a false New Age covenant” (finally, something Cumbey will validate) . . .

“When in 1780 Lessing expounded his grand vision of a progressive illumined human race, in his On the Education of the Human Race, he proclaimed:  ‘It will assuredly come!  The time of the new eternal Gospel which is promised us in the Primer of the New Testament itself…Perhaps even some enthusiasts of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries had caught a glimpse of a beam of this new eternal Gospel, and only erred in that they predicted its outburst as so near to their own time.  Perhaps their ‘Three Ages of the World’ were not so empty of speculation after all, and assuredly they had no contemptible views when they taught that the New Covenant must become as antiquated as the Old had been…Only they were premature.’  Lessing’s phrase ‘The Three Ages of the World’ taken in conjunction with the term ‘Eternal Evangel,’ identifies these medieval ‘enthusiasts’ securely as Joachites.” 256:60-1

Aho wraps up her profundities by announcing that the “objective of the Antichrist’s New Age covenant is the divinization of man as Adam Kadmon.”  It is here she cites Carlo Cardinal Martini:

“‘It is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me’ Gal. 2:20.  The deification which is the aim of all religious life takes place… God’s direct action in human hearts [is] transforming and deifying… In the new covenant…humanity becomes divine and God becomes human.” (Carlo Cardinal Martini) – 443:55, 42).

Lest we forget Aho’s Mark of the Beast:

“The obelisk at the altar will be the site for beheading those who reject the Mark of the Beast.  At the eastern end of the Champs Elysees is the Place de la Concorde (Square of Peace).  This square was built during the 1700s.  Within it (is) the obelisk of Luxor, a stone pillar from Egypt during the French Revolution (1789-1799), a guillotine (beheading machine) stood in the square.  Hundreds of people, including Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were executed on it.” – 215 (“Paris”)

Thus, Antichrist will set up an obelisk in the Temple of Solomon – and, the site of this obelisk will be used for beheading and phallic worship!

And, so ends our meanderings through Christianity – by this time, we are of humans most confused, bewildered, and befuddled!  On the other hand, perhaps we are the wiser . . . and the more enlightened . . . the “truth is out there” but it’s still “out there” in the unfaltering Word of the Living God.

Dr. Braga, a dear man who taught me two words, by guiding me through two courses; one, homiletics (i.e., the giving and preparing of a homily or sermon/short message) and the other, hermeneutics (i.e., the study of the interpretation of the Bible)—I will be forever grateful to him for a helpful background given at Multnomah College and Biblical Seminary in Portland, Oregon.  The words ring true each day the Word becomes alive in me:  Context, context, context.

The study of the Bible demands immediate apprehension (its local meaning – to whom it was written, why, from whom (the writer); then, extraordinary understanding—taking the passage or passages in their greater context in either the New Testament or the Hebrew Scriptures and comparing and contrasting the topic with, frankly, the whole of the Bible; and, finally, the devotional or subjective and/or spiritual knowledge of the text which speaks to the heart and nourishes the human spirit—the pure milk and meat of the Word; and, finally, the commentary of brethren who have given themselves to the study of the Bible.

I would add one more axiom to this threefold cord – “The times and the seasons.”  The Word of God is up to date, living, real, and prescient in its import—nothing is as eternally relevant and able to comprehend the times in which we live.  Wisdom and understanding are found in the Message – how we shall then live in the present age; unto the end of the age.

Dr. Desmond Ford and his pursuit to uncover the “Abomination of Desolation” is similar to my own—although a doctoral thesis has not hovered over my head to complete the search.  Yet that imperative to grasp its profound significance—a significance rightly observed by Ford and others, from the Living Word Himself prior to His crucifixion—in these days has been the greater burden upon my spirit.

That said – let us briefly delve into the “mystery of iniquity” and the major themes within the apocalyptic drama – contrasting and comparing them both in their context and expansive meanings (We will expand upon these themes in more detail in the Prophetic Sequence in later publications.).

We previously have outlined the overarching affirmations of the “mystery of godliness” whereby the Word became flesh and “tabernacled” (“dwelt”) among us (John 1:14).  In this manner, the creative persona of the Godhead; the incarnation and hypostatic union of the two natures (truly God and truly man); His suffering and propitiation for our sins; the Life-Giving Spirit of Christ made universally available to us all through the vindication of His resurrection; the immediate work of the Holy Spirit in the preparation of the Woman, the Bride, the Wife of the Lamb—the Image of the Messiah, the Christ—is perfected through the indwelling and transformation (from glory to glory) of and by the Spirit of Christ in every believer born from above . . . who await the ultimate transfiguration of these mortal bodies on the day of the resurrection of all those justified by His Life.

This spiritual reality is the antithesis of the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION – whose spiritual ramifications we shall discuss in our next part – Part XIX.
