“The more things change, the more they stay the same!” So goes this little ditty; a trenchant reminder: Where have I seen this before? Doug Shearer’s seasoned article merits an immediate review in light of the False Prophet’s grandiose preparatory escapades here in these United States of America, as well as amongst the Ten Kings who shall lend their allegiance to the Beast for one hour of concupiscent power-sharing born out of absolute ignorance (Revelation 17:12). Imagine, these “ten horns” have not received any kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the Beast – if that isn’t a set up, I don’t know what is!

We now come to the nexus of apostasy: The politicization of the Church. It’s happened before but this time around it is under girded by doctrinal distortion and the growing fear of secularization with its concomitant strains of unbelief, amoral behavior – criminal activity (especially, in high places). Therefore, it is time that the righteous rise up and take the reins of power – turn this ship of state around before it runs wholly amok.

Yes, the brew concocted by the False Prophet in the Latter Days is one stew for the human soul…
let Doug Shearer explain:

"Roe vs. Wade" is perhaps the single most galvanizing impulse underlying the politicization of Evangelical Christians. It unleashed a fire storm of pent up fury - and underscored the awesome depth of America's moral collapse. Abortion-on-demand - murder! Plain and simple! A repulsive, grotesque Evil had been cast in the guise of a civil right. Blind selfishness had been enthroned! Millions of unborn babies were now being systematically slaughtered - and with the full approval - if not the blessing - of the United States Government.

The slaughter had to be stopped. And only the church was prepared to assume that burden. Every other American institution had been paralyzed - none stood in the gap. The church alone was left. She alone recoiled in shame and disgust! If she failed to arise, the slaughter would not only continue, but would undoubtedly intensify. And who could foresee its final consequences? What odious perversion would "the new morality" next legitimize - the blatant advocacy of existential ethics - not simple toleration, but outright encouragement? Extermination of the elderly? Eradication of the handicapped or the hopelessly ill? The sale of pornography to minors?

What's happening? The new Christian activism is spawning a wholly new Christian mind-set - a weltanschauung - a call to arms that promises victory and purportedly vindicates the on-going political struggle in Biblical terms! It's radically different from the traditional Twentieth Century Evangelical mind-set. And if it "catches on," Christian activism - for the first time in over one hundred years - will have clothed itself in an eschatological justification.

That justification will inevitably alter the nature of the conflict - Christian activism will assume the form of a "holy crusade" - a crusade which is pointed not merely toward a roll-back, a simple return to the "old days," but, rather, toward a final victory - the establishment of a Christian Republic! The Kingdom of God on the earth!

Chapter 12 – The False Prophet

Aeolus – Greek god who rules the winds – finds himself in the financial news these days. Yes, Gone with the Wind (an American story of Civil War and the passage of the Antebellum South) might be a better expression for our topic. Bizarre as it may sound – and no offense to the Canadians’ Whistler Olympics (also a Greek fete of sorts) – Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan play a huge role in the Greeks’ windy financial crisis; now threatening the euro’s stability, even credibility:

“The crisis in Greece poses the most significant challenge yet to Europe’s common currency, the euro, and the continent’s goal of economic unity. The country is, in the argot of banking, too big to be allowed to fail. Greece owes the world $300 billion, and major banks are on the hook for much of that debt. A default would reverberate around the globe.” (Wall Street played role in Greece crisis…Strategy to Manipulate Debt Stretched Over a Decade…by Louise Story, Nelson D. How quaint the “deals” that kept Greece in compliance with the euro – Aeolus. “Some of the Greek deals were named after figures in Greek mythology. One of them, for instance, was called Aeolos (sic), after the god of the winds.” (Ibid.)

Never have so many governmental officials and professional financiers lied so blatantly and so profusely, so often and with such fabricated facts and figures since this nation was founded. The liars are likewise pervasive throughout Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. The pot is calling the kettle black when the IMF has to tell Europe to “come clean” on their bank losses! The banks are broke, the taxpayers will inherit their toxic derivatives when the government nationalizes all banks and sundry financial institutions (and kiss your 401Ks and pension funds goodbye!).

We are headed for the worst calamitous financial disaster the world has ever known; and most certainly, the total wipeout of the middle class that has grown throughout the world, especially in North America, India and China, let alone Europe and Australasia. You still refuse to believe – I said total wipeout! Hold on to your dollars! On the other hand, ever wonder why the Feds don’t have to print new money? The world is abandoning all their currencies and dumping them for dollars by buying all the US government securities known to man and at the lowest rates ever – that’s what happens when the world goes broke…Come to Mama; you’ll be “safe” here – after all, if you can’t trust the US, then who can you trust? 

Behold, the bloated figure of one, Babylon the Great, struts upon the world scene, high steeping, secure in her contemptuous appearance – little wonder, therefore, that the Apostle John when he saw her he exclaimed: “I marveled with great amazement” – lit. “I was flabbergasted!” (Rev. 17:6)

Chapter 11 - The False Prophet

The relativism of the post-modern era has left the extremities of society so bereft of moral compass and governmental integrity with sin abounding about the Great City – from the dregs of Sodom to the vanities of Egypt (both of whom vie in their persecution of the Two Witnesses who decry their deceits upon the earthlings (Revelation 11:8)).  The Church’s pilgrimage tilts in despairing confusion and demands a behavioral correction, a social reformation – a radical course adjustment – allegedly designed to avert social calamity.  Herein lurks the temptation to engage the State to do its exterior work and abandon the Gospel of Christ thereby “apostatizing” the faith once delivered while insulting “the Spirit of Grace.” 

Make no mistake – the greatest of theological debates is currently being waged.  We are persuaded unless and until the Church comes to grips with this riveting contestation between Reformational Covenantalism and Dispensational Revivalism – between the Gospel of the Kingdom vs. the Gospel of the Grace of God – between Israel’s New Covenant claims by Covenantalists and the Everlasting Covenant claimed by true Dispensationalists . . . multitudes of Christians will plunge headlong into the ministry of the False Prophet, dilute the Gospel of Christ and do “despite to the Spirit of Grace” (Heb. 10:29).  Dear friends and brethren, the deception of “another gospel” will pave the way for the False Prophet to incorporate unsuspecting millions of God’s people to MOUNT THE STATELY BEAST in participation of prophetic fulfillment heretofore thought the most unlikely from them who boast of their Reformational roots!

“For if he that cometh preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him . . . . I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the Grace of Christ, to a DIFFERENT GOSPEL, which is not another, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.  But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.  As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed” (II Cor. 11:4; Galatians 1:6-9).

It is to this deception and the groundswell of theological – specifically, eschatological – confusion regarding the Church’s original disclosure by the Apostle Paul which concern.  “While freeing believers from the bondage of Rome, the Reformation (i.e., Covenant Theology) brought them back, in large measure, under the bondage of Sinai.  The Church came out of the Middle Ages like Lazarus from the tomb—alive but bound in grave clothes.  The Reformers took away one set of bindings, but bound believers in another, the Law—and this has atrophied the spiritual life of multitudes.” (Donald Grey Barnhouse, as found in Messianic Judaism, Miles J. Stanford, withchrist.org)

I shall never forget while traveling from Portland, Oregon to Dallas, Texas with Dr. John (Jack) G. Mitchell – one of the great sages of the Bible Institute Movement and who mentored so many of us at Multnomah School of the Bible which he co-founded in 1936 (now Multnomah University) – turning to me about his early struggles and remarking:  “Those were the days when the Gospel of the Grace of God was made known to us” (Acts 20:24).  Never did I imagine nearly thirty years from that journey would I have occasion in defense of Dr. Mitchell’s profoundest remark!

I enjoin you in Christ to awaken to your HIGH CALLING and to settle for nothing less!   Therefore, I leave you with this admonition given by our brother Paul:

“I am sent for the defense of the gospel . . .” (Phil. 1:17).  And be very clear “since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth” (Col. 1:6) . . . “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT by which he was sanctified a common thing, and INSULTED THE SPIRIT OF GRACE?” (Hebrews 10:29)
